Prep For School’s Pre- K Program
Prepare your child for a confident start to their educational journey with our Pre-K Program. Designed for young learners, sessions focus on essential school-readiness skills including early literacy, pre-writing, numeracy and social-emotional development. Carefully created and guided by an experienced Primary School educator, our program provides a supportive environment where children build confidence, independence and a genuine love of learning.
Prep For School is now located in Castle Hill, offering children regular access to Castle Hill Library for experiences such as group story time, guided book exploration and library borrowing. These opportunities support vocabulary development, foster a love of reading and allow children to practise real school routines in a meaningful setting. Learning is further enriched through a purposefully designed indoor and outdoor environment that promotes social interaction in small groups.

Pre-writing skills
At Prep For School, we take pride in our commitment to enhancing fine motor skills, refining pencil grip, teaching correct cutting techniques, and guiding letter formation. This hands on and engaging program promotes early writing skills through first recognising the shapes that constitute letters. Establishing a solid foundation in an effective pre-writing program empowers students to avoid initial challenges linked to potential letter reversal.

Pre-reading skills
In our Pre-Reading sessions, we integrate a comprehensive approach that combines the effectiveness of a phonics-based program, Pre-Lit, with engaging elements. This unique combination exposes students to a structured, skills-based program crafted to establish a robust foundation for their journey into reading. Pre-Lit specifically emphasises phonetical awareness and oral language development, complemented by a storybook component designed to familiarise your child with essential reading skills. It’s a dynamic blend that makes learning to read an exciting adventure!

Numeracy
In our numeracy program, we prioritise number recognition, counting, creating quantities, and exposure to mathematical language. These skills lay a solid foundation for a child’s mathematical understanding. Number recognition builds the ability to identify numerical symbols, counting develops a sense of numerical order and quantity, and creating quantities enhances the comprehension of mathematical relationships.

Gross Motor Skills
Our expansive 5-acre setting isn’t just space; it’s a dynamic learning environment where we actively harness the outdoors for optimal physical development. Our focus on gross motor skills takes full advantage of this vast space, allowing students the freedom to engage in activities such as walking, running, jumping, hopping, balancing, skipping, and throwing.

Fine Motor Skills
Fine motor skills encompass the coordination of muscles in children's hands, crucial not only for academics but also for daily activities like dressing, eating, handling objects, using scissors, and maintaining a proper pencil grip. In our classroom, we offer engaging game-like activities, and outside, our jungle-gym promotes climbing and hanging to further enhance muscle development.

Social & Emotional Skills
We assist in developing vital social skills including listening skills, organisational skills, turn taking, sharing, following instructions and forming friendships and each child’s emotional well-being is a cornerstone of our approach. We focus on building resilience, instilling confidence, and teaching emotional regulation. By addressing the emotional aspect of learning, we aim to create a positive and supportive environment that allows children to thrive not just academically but emotionally as well.

Meet the teacher
My name is Brooke Costaganna and I am the founder of Prep For School.
I am a highly experienced primary school teacher with over a decade of involvement in the classroom. Previously, I have have been employed in leadership roles enabling me to partake in various Literacy and Numeracy training. This ongoing professional development has allowed me to tailor the learning to meet the different needs of my students and help them reach their fullest potential.
More importantly, I am a wife and mother to three beautiful children who are experts at keeping me on my toes. I am fortunate enough to live in a beautiful home in Kenthurst, which enables my little ones to have the luxury of space to run around and take advantage of nature around them.
It is a mixture of my own experiences as a teacher as well as my son’s learning journey that play a huge part in why I have created this service.

Prep For School offers something so beneficial and unique for a child in the lead up to beginning Kindergarten. With Brooke’s passion and many years of experience teaching Kindergarten, the children are exposed to many learning outcomes, social environments and routines that will come when they begin big school.
Prep For School’s weekly sessions are based on small groups of children, allowing Brooke to really focus on each child’s individual process and goals.
Each session is tailored and planned to benefit each child’s goals, which in turn is something so beneficial to each child’s learning journey.
The progression children have made while attending Prep For School is a testament to Brooke’s dedication to create a program that is currently hard to come by in this day and age, and in my opinion is so beneficial for a child to be exposed to so they are ready as they can be for beginning Kindergarten.

Working with Brooke has been an amazing experience. Brooke’s Prep For School program differs from the normal Preschool environment as it is an intensive program that promotes all aspects of getting children prepared for school, in small groups in a classroom setting.

Prep For School has been a very positive experience. My son has enjoyed the time with Brooke and his classmates every week. He shares his experiences and events with us on the car ride home. What we get up to
At Prep for School, we value the unique needs of families, and our program is dedicated to nurturing foundational abilities that pave the way for a successful learning journey. That’s why we’ve created our Pre-K program, ensuring a holistic approach that prepares children for various educational paths.
To prioritise personalised attention and create a nurturing environment, our group sessions are intentionally limited to a maximum of eight children. This ensures that your little one receives ample one-on-one time with our experienced educators.

FAQs

Our sessions follow a per-term pricing model, with each session priced at $85.00 (including GST) for a 2.5-hour block.
Please note that payment for the program must be made in full one week prior to the start of the first session.
Alternatively, we offer the option of two half payments - one at the beginning of the term and one at the mid-term point. If you would like to take advantage of this option, please inform Brooke two weeks prior to the start of the first session.

Prep For School's School Readiness & Foundation Skills Program is crafted with the insight of an experienced Primary School educator who has witnessed the journeys of hundreds of Kindergarten children. Drawing on a deep understanding of the requirements of Kindergarten, we tailor activities to align with your child’s individual needs and goals.
Additionally, our commitment to personalised learning is reflected in smaller group sizes.

Ideally, we advise you to enrol your child in Prep For School from the start of Term 1 and have them attend the program for the duration of the year.
The learning and skill set we focus on at Prep For School progressively build upon each other from previous weeks and terms. Students enrolled for the entire year have the time to consolidate their skills and build the confidence needed to thrive.
It's never too late to enrol your child (we have had children begin in Term 4 and still see results).

No, our efficient 'Drop and Go' system is implemented for your convenience and to help foster your child's independence and resilience. Both drop-off and pick-up occur outside the front gate of the property. Your child will be personally escorted to and from the classroom, except in the case of wet-weather dismissal. If you foresee your child possibly experiencing separation anxiety, please notify us before the first session so that we can collaborate to create a personalised plan for a smooth transition.

We kindly request that children bring a small backpack to our sessions, equipped with a hat, drink bottle and a lunchbox containing a crunch and sip snack (a piece of fruit or vegetable).

Generally children aged 4-6 years old. However we have had children begin as young as 3.5 years old. For our younger students, we recommend a trial session before committing to the term.

Due to small class sizes and limited availability, your child has the opportunity to participate in a trial session for the School Readiness & Foundation Skills program. During this trial session, your child will attend for a duration of two hours, providing them with a comprehensive experience of our program. Additionally, this allows our educators to become acquainted with your child before providing feedback at the conclusion of the session.
Please note that trial sessions are subject to a fee of $75.00 and needs to be paid before the trial commences. Feel free to contact Brooke via the contact form if you are interested.
Trials can only be offered for classes with availability -
As per our Cancellation Policy
If cancellation is made due to sickness, holiday, etc. and at least 8 hours notice has been given, every effort will be made to rebook a makeup session (in a group). This ‘make-up’ session must be within the 14 days before or after the usual scheduled session. 'Make-up' sessions will not cross over to different terms.
